Laxmipriya Devi receiving Adi Guru Pankaj Charan Das Award BHUBANESWAR: One among the first generation Odissi dancers Laxmipriya Devi was conferred the first Adi Guru Pankaj Charan Das award by the Gajapati of Puri Sri Dibyasinhga Deb here on Tuesday. The award has been instituted in memory of Padma Shri Pankaj Charan Das by the Guru Pankaj Udra Sanskruti Academy. Das was the first guru who trained Laxmipriya and her illustrious husband late Kelucharan Mohapatra in Odissi in the 40’s era. Mr. Patnaik also honoured 76-year-old Odissi singer Gopinath Tripathy, who also performed on the occasion in spite of his old age. The inaugural evening witnessed the ritualisitc Mahari dance of Puri followed by Odissi dance by a number of artistes.
