Manipal: Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University H.S. Ballal said on Wednesday that Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes would inaugurate the state-of-the-art 64 Slice CT Scan at the Kasturba Hospital here on January 18. Addressing presspersons here, Prof. Ballal said that the 64 slice CT scanner was a revolution in medical imaging technology with distinct usefulness in the imaging of heart disease with minimum discomfort and in the shortest possible time. Besides, this scanner had other applications related to other human organs and body parts, such as brain, liver, bones, lungs etc. It would be much more comfortable to the patients too. He said that the advantage of this scanner was unprecedented clarity, speed, accuracy and performance in imaging. It provided superior coronary artery imaging and was an excellent tool in trauma applications. Besides, there was minimum radiation for the patients, he said. Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University Raj Warrier, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital B.H. Anand Rao, head of the department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging at Kasturba Medical College V.R.K. Rao, were present.
