No bird flu threat to State
Staff Reporter
COIMBATORE: The bird flu reported in some parts of West Bengal will not affect the poultry sector in Tamil Nadu. However, exports of egg and broiler products are likely to be affected, says B. Soundararajan, Managing Director of Suguna Poultry Farm and President of the All-India Poultry Breeders’ Association. The incidence is reported only among “backyard poultry birds” in West Bengal and only in some parts of that State.
The State Bengal Government has started culling the birds in 10-km radius of those areas hence there is no threat of the disease spreading. The poultry sector has been asking for zoning or compartmentalisation.
