Two suspected ISI activists arrested

Kolkata: Two Bangladeshi nationals, with suspected links to the Pakistan-based ISI, were arrested from the Shibpur area in Howrah district on Wednesday.

“Shamim Akhtar and Sheikh Alamgir were arrested on a tip-off from a former jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force whom they were trying to recruit,” said Rajeev Kumar, IG, Special Operations Group of the State’s CID. Believed to be part of the ISI’s espionage module, they were engaged in recruiting ex-servicemen to extract strategic information, he added.
