Coimbatore: City Corporation officials on Wednesday conducted raid on meat stalls to ensure compliance to the ban on meat sale in view of the Thiruvalluvar Day. The administration had announced a ban on sale of meat in view of the Thiruvalluvar Day. Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran deputed a team of officials, led by Veterinary Officer and Zoo Director, S. Thirukkumaran, to conduct raids. During the raid, the officials came across 10 shops violating the ban and keeping their stalls open. The officials confiscated chicken, mutton, pork and beef from the stalls and recommended for initiating action against these shops. A similar vigil was kept across the city to check liquor sales too. The administration had instructed the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) liquor shops to remain closed on Wednesday.
