Alonso settles down at Renault

JEREZ (Spain): Fernando Alonso finally got behind the wheel of a Renault for his first test drive since returning to the French team. His results made it look like old times.

Alonso had a fastest time of 1m 19.503s from 70 laps around the 4.423-km Circuito de Jerez on Tuesday, beating former McLaren teammate Pedro de la Rosa who clocked 1:19.650.

“I could not wait to drive again, but at the same time I was a bit tentative,” said Alonso, who last drove a Renault when he clinched his second straight F-1 title in 2006. “I quickly settled back into the team and everything went well. We made good progress throughout the day, but there is a lot still to do.” — AP
