TKR Engineering College posts win

HYDERABAD: TKR Engineering College (Hyderabad) recorded a 26-run win over CMRIT (Hyderabad) in the sixth SR Champions Trophy State-level inter-engineering colleges cricket tournament in Warangal.

The scores: JBIT (Ranga Reddy) 165 for eight (Sharath 57, Santosh 37) bt CMR CET (Hyderabad) 140 for eight (Farhan three for 15); CMRIT (Hyderabad) 170 for nine (Abhishek 39) bt Indur EC (Siddipet) 107 (Indranel three for 20). Dr. B.V. Raju IT (Medak) 160 for seven (Pankaj 37, Nishanth 34) bt MGIT (Hyderabad) 82 for nine (Ravi four for 20); Ganapathi EC (Warangal) 82 lost to Muffakam Jah EC (Hyderabad) 88 for no loss (Gowtham Reddy 51 not out, Abhishek Ponia 32 not out). VJIT Moinabad RR 117 for five (Rajeev 33) lost to MF Jah EC (Hyderabad) 120 for five (Abhishek 35); Dr. B.V. Raju IT (Medak) 138 (Pankaj 31) bt Dr. Paul Raj EC (Bhadrachalam) 131 for eight (Pankaj three for 19); JBIT (Ranga Reddy) 149 for seven (Nitin 43) bt Adams EC (Paloncha) 141 for seven (Suneel four for 28); TKR EC (Hyderabad) 139 for nine (Santosh 34, Praveen three for 14) bt CMRIT (Hyderabad) 113 (Ravinder five for 15).

Sunil, Abhinav shine

Good bowling by M. Sunil Kumar (six for 20) and a century by Abhinav Kumar (129 not out) were the highlights for Andhra Bank in its match against Zinda Tilismath on the first day of the ‘A’ division (three-day) league cricket championship here.

The scores: ‘A’ division (three-day): Zinda Tilismath 66 (M. Sunil Kumar six for 20) vs. Andhra Bank 272 for five (Abhinav Kumar 129 not out, A. Nanda Kishore 55); SCRSA 431 for eight (M. Suresh 87, Shashavali 62, R.A. Vishwanath 54, J.T. Yadav 67, A.G. Pradeep 55) vs. Syndicate Bank.

‘A’ division (one-day) knock-out: Vijay Hanuman 102 (Sandeep 60, Pragyan Ojha four for 13) lost to SBH 104 for one (T. Suman 42 not out).

Veterans cricket

The Veterans Cricket Association of Hyderabad (HVCA) will conduct its annual function-cum-cricket festival at the Secunderabad Gymkhana on January 20 from 9 a.m.

Four teams — Ghulam Ahamad XI, M.L. Jaisimha XI, E.D. Aibara XI and P. Krishnamurthy XI — will play limited-over matches on the same day.

Sultan named convener

S.M. Sultan, Vice-President, Table Tennis Federation of India and Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association, has been named Convenor of the sub-committee appointed by the Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association to scrutinise sports certificates submitted for admission to professional courses.

Other members of the committee are L. Venkatram Reddy, Chairman, G. Gopichand and J. Jairaj, members.

Chess tournament

Syed triumphs

Syed Saqib Ahmed emerged the winner in the third annual South Zone junior golf tournament, conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Golf Union, at the Army Golf Course, Bolarum, on Tuesday.

About 44 players in different age-groups from across south India took part. The two-day event was sponsored by Soma Enterprises.

The results: Category ‘A’ & ‘B’: 1. Syed Saqib Ahmed 165 (80, 85); 2. Alaap 167 (84, 83). Category ‘C’: 1. Vashista Pawar 167 (82, 85); 2. Yashash Chandra 178 (88, 90). Category ‘D’ (below-10 years): 1. Surya Kumar 211 (104, 107); 2. Siddharth 218 (111, 107).

Double for AP

Andhra Pradesh won both the boys’ and girls’ titles defeating Punjab in both finals of the 53rd National School Games kho-kho championship that concluded at Pangulur (Prakasam district) on Tuesday.

The results: Boys: Final: AP bt Punjab 11-9. Semifinals: Punjab bt Maharashtra 14-13; AP bt Karnataka 11-8. Girls: Final: AP bt Punjab 8-5. Semifinals: Punjab bt Karnataka 13-5; AP bt Maharashtra 14-3.
