KOCHI: The Trade Union Centre of India (TUCI) has urged the Union government to take immediate steps to save Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT). Charles George, district secretary of CPI(ML) Red Flag, said in a release that the government should initiate measures to resume operation of the plants at the earliest. He said that FACT was the largest public sector unit in the State. The TUCI pointed out that the relief package announced by the Centre was pending for want of support from the authorities. Mr. George said that the globalisation policies adopted by the Union government were responsible for the crisis in FACT. Agitation planThe TUCI had decided to step up its agitation to save the public sector unit. A protest would be held in front of the Ernakulam Telephone Exchange on January 28. P.C. Unnichekkan, CPI (ML) Red Flag State secretary, would inaugurate the programme.
