Incident took place on January 10 Two policemen hurt in attack Kochi: Ernakulam Principal Sessions Judge D. Pappachan on Wednesday granted bail to the three naval personnel who were arrested on the charge of attacking the Harbour police station. The incident took place on January 10. The naval personnel who were granted bail are Lt. Commander Rahul Jyoti (29) from Haryana, Sub. Lt. Deepak Ullagaddi (28) and Sub. Lt. Prassana Kumar (22), both from Karnataka. The police said the accused were part of a 100-member group of navy personnel who came in 50 motorcycles and allegedly attacked the police station with stones. They forcibly entered the station and attacked two policemen with iron rods, injuring them. Petition dismissedMeanwhile, the Kerala High Court dismissed a petition filed by Commanding Officer of INS Venduruthy S.K. Jha challenging the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate court’s order rejecting his plea for handing over the naval personnel to the navy for court-martial. The magistrate court, while rejecting the plea, observed that the stage for handing over the personnel to the navy as per section 475 of the Criminal Procedure Code would come only when the charge-sheet was filed against the accused before the court. Dismissing the petition, Justice V. Ramkumar concurred with the opinion of the magistrate. The judge recorded the statement of the Director-General of Prosecution that the investigation would be expedited and final report filed at the earliest.
