BANGALORE: Sankranti offered rich pickings for burglars who looted cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees in the city since Tuesday morning. Burglars struck at a three-storeyed building housing a large textiles showroom in Nandidurga Road on Tuesday night and looted cash and clothes. The Shivajinagar police, who have registered a case, said the thieves had entered the showroom through the basement. Thieves broke open the locks of Shiva Kumar’s house on 12th Cross, Magadi Road, and looted Rs. 30,000 cash and gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 1 lakh on Tuesday. The incident came to light around 11.30 p.m. when Shiva Kumar, a cashier at a bar, returned home from work, the police said. The K.P. Agrahara police have registered a case. Burglars struck at two neighbouring houses in Kushalnagar in Kadugondanahalli police station limits in the early hours of Tuesday and took away valuables worth Rs. 50,000. The police said thieves cut the window grills of Irfan’s house and made away with gold ornaments estimated at Rs. 25,000. The theft took place between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. when Irfan had gone to the airport to see-off his father who went to Sudan. In the other incident, thieves looted valuables worth an equal amount from the house of Babu, a tailor. The Kadugondanahalli Police have registered separate cases.
