Belgaum
Belgaum: Former Minister from Maharashtra Praveen Bhonsale on Thursday hailed Marathi-speaking people living on the border area here for keeping alive their movement for “justice” over boundary dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra. He was addressing a gathering on the occasion of Martyr’s Day observed by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES) here. He said Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar was aware of the boundary dispute and the plight of Marathi-speaking people living on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border and stood by them. He paid tributes to martyrs. He said that even leaders such as Madhu Dandavate had participated in various agitations aimed at seeking solution to the boundary dispute. The Maharashtra Government was concerned over the issue and had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, he added. President of the Belgaum city unit of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti Narayanrao Tarale, working president Deepak Dalvi, managing editor of Tarun Bharat Kiran Thakur and corporator Lata Patil spoke. Meanwhile, the call for “hartal” (bandh) given by MES evoked poor response. In the evening, a public meeting was held at Samyukt Maharashtra Chowk.
