One-month training in batches of 25 workers Each participant to get stipend of Rs.150 a day ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala State Coir Corporation (KSCC), in association with the National Coir Research and Management Institute (NCRMI), is launching a training programme aimed at upgrading the manufacturing skills of workers in the coir sector. KSCC chairman G. Venugopal and NCRMI director P.R. Luis said that the programme, which would be inaugurated by Coir Minister G. Sudhakaran here on Friday, was aimed at sustaining traditional skills and at preventing several coir products from becoming extinct due to the lack of skilled hands. Each batch would have 25 workers and would be trained for a month under the guidance of experts and senior coir workers.While five of these would be trained in weaving tough designs, 10 would be trained in making carpets and 10 in making coir fenders. Each participant would be given a stipend of Rs.150 per day during the training period. The products made during the training would be marketed by the KSSC, Mr. Venugopal said. The first batch of trainees was selected from different public sector coir units and cooperative societies. The inaugural of the training programme would be held at the Coir Corporation factory here. K.C. Venugopal, MLA, Rani George, Additional Secretary (Coir), and others would be present.
