Panel to streamline INTUC functioning

Staff Reporter

Kochi: The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) will streamline its activities before the scheduled State committee elections within a year, said R. Chandrasekharan, INTUC State president.

He was interacting with the media during the first meeting of the newly constituted State committee here on Thursday.

Steps would be taken to affiliate those unions headed by Congress leaders, but not affiliated to the INTUC, failing which these unions would be distanced from the INTUC. A sub-committee comprising Mr. Chandrasekharan, V.D. Satheesan, MLA; Varkala Kahar, N. Azhakesan, P.K. Gopalan, and Palode Ravi, has been formed for this purpose.

Another panel

Another sub-committee has been set up to study the functioning unions. The sub-committee has K. Surendran, K.P. Haridas, K.C. Ramachandran, M.S. Rawther and Sherif Marakkar as members. The sub-committee will get in contact with district leadership and individual unions directly and file its report within three months.

The meeting also decided to congratulate the Union government for taking some important decisions towards the welfare of labourers, including raising bonus limit and ensuring 100 days’ job for those below the poverty line in rural sector.
