Petition by swamiji adjourned

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday adjourned further hearing on a criminal petition by Sri Madhusudhanapuri Swamiji of Omkar Ashrama Mahasamasthana, Bangalore, challenging the legality and validity of a receiver appointed by the State to take care of the affairs of the ashrama.

The swamiji claimed that the State had violated court orders by appointing for a second time a receiver to monitor and manage the affairs of the ashrama in Raja Rajeshwarinagar. He said this is the second time that he is petitioning the High Court against the appointment of a receiver for taking control of the ashrama affairs.

He said he had, several months ago, filed a petition before the High Court challenging the appointment of the Bangalore South Tahsildar as Official Receiver. The court had allowed his petition. He said he was appointed by Shivapuri Mahaswamiji as the heir to the ashrama. However, Swamiji Purushottamanandapuri of Bhageerathi Peeta had disputed his ascension and also laid claim to being the successor.

He said following the dispute between them, the Government appointed a receiver and he had challenged the proceedings drawn up against him by the Government. Justice K. Bhakthavatsala adjourned the petition.
