dated January 18, 1958: U.S. aid to India

A press communique issued by the Government of India on January 16 in New Delhi announced the United States Government’s offer of loan of 225 million dollars. The terms and purposes of the loan, partly from the Export-Import Bank and partly from the Development Loan Fund, are to be negotiated in Washington. The announcement said that the U.S. Government was considering additional measures to assist India in meeting her food shortage. The U.S. Government has invited the Government of India to send representatives to discuss these matters further. According to a press note the government of India has accepted this invitation and an Indian delegation led by Mr. B.K. Nehru, Economic Secretary, will be reaching Washington by the end of this month.
