BANGALORE: Anil Kumble’s 600th Test wicket evoked unabated joy and pride among his hometown’s cricketing fraternity. Besides the customary ‘congratulations’, the unanimous verdict was that Kumble has the ability and fitness to go on and get 700 Test wickets. G.R. Viswanath: It is a tremendous achievement and reflects his hard work, commitment and sincerity towards the game. He richly deserves the honour to be the third bowler and first Indian to get to the 600-wicket mark. It’s happened when he is the captain too. It is a proud moment for all of us. E.A.S. Prasanna: Hats off to him. I am so proud that he has carried the Karnataka legacy in spin to its pinnacle. His objective now should be to play as long as he can and play till another leg-spinner emerges for India. The captaincy has been an additional shot in the arm for him and he is the only bowler who gets wickets by attacking the batsmen rather than bowling a restrictive line. Special Correspondent adds from Chennai V.V. Kumar : Kumble’s great line and the bounce he extracts have been his primary assets. I have known him for close to 20 years and he has evolved as a bowler. He came to Chennai for a stint under me mid-way through his career and I told him to use his wrist along with his fingers for delivering the googly. He is bowling the delivery much better now. He gets the batsmen to play the way he wants them to play. It is a great feat.
