Some 500 persons screened at the camp on the inaugural day BERHAMPUR: A two-day mega health camp organised by South Orissa Pharmacists’ Association (SOPA) and Ganjam Phulbani Chemists’ and Druggists’ Association was inaugurated in the city on Thursday. It was an effort of these organisations to provide expert advice to citizens of the city in an informal surrounding, said SOPA secretary Bishnu Prasad Padhi. Physicians from the MKCG Medical College took out time from their busy schedule to take part in the health camp. SOPA vice-president Prabhu Prasad Padhi said that on the first day diseases related to orthopaedics, medicine and ophthalmology were looked into. More than 500 persons attended the free medical camp on the inaugural day. At the camp, volunteers of the organisations are creating awareness regarding dangers of self medication and simple steps to check sell of spurious drugs in the market. “In recent times people have started to lose confidence in the chemists due to reports of sale of spurious drugs in the market. We are trying to make customers more vigilant so that they could sense small disparities in the labels and packaging of medicines to bring it to the notice of pharmacists’ association for necessary legal action,” members of the association said.
