Shreekshetra Utsav kicks off in Puri

PURI: Showcasing Orissa’s art, craft, culture and cuisine and highlighting cultural heritage of Puri for pilgrims and tourists, the annual Shreekshetra Utsav kicked off in this holy town on Wednesday.

Into its third edition, the three-day event was inaugurated by Orissa Legislative Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty while Tourism Minister D.P.Mishra and District Collector Rashmi Ranjan Patnaik were present.

The inaugural evening of the event showcased recitation of Geet Govind by popular singers like Mohapatra Minati Bhanja, Bijay Kumar Jena and Mitali Chinara. The traditional Odissi music segment was followed by enthralling solo Odissi dance by noted danseuse Aruna Mohanty and captivating group presentation by Bhubaneswar-based Rudrakshya dance institute of Bichitrananda Swain. A handicrafts exhibition and food fair have been mounted at the Mahodadhi Niwas as part of the festival.
