HYDERABAD: The Government has decided to take up construction of houses under Indiramma phase II on a mission mode from January 26. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy handed out a new programme ‘Prasthanam’ to officials from January 27 to February 11 to commence work on the remaining 20 lakh-odd houses under phase II. Interacting with district Collectors through a video-conference here on Thursday, he asked them to involve elected representatives to start work immediately in villages and municipal wards during the 15-day period. ‘Inauspicious’ timeThe Chief Minister provided a status position of Indiramma, saying that phase II was sluggish as the beneficiaries were unwilling to commence work on their houses in view of the ‘inauspicious’ period before Sankranti. He asked the Collectors to take all steps, including speedier acquisition of land, to ensure that house construction work picks up momentum. He noted that as against 28.71 lakh houses sanctioned under phase II, work commenced only on 2.15 lakh units. Details about 4.6 lakh houses could not be fed into computers as ration cards were not issued to the beneficiaries. The Chief Minister directed the Collectors to implement NREGP from February to May when agriculture activity would be on a low key.He sought steps to hand over land for airports at Nizamabad, Ongole, Tadepalligudem, Nellore, Ramagundam and Kothagudem.
