“Marriage of technical promise of Germany with manufacturing skills of India” CHENNAI: A leading European company in dust and fuel extraction technology on Thursday launched a joint venture company headquartered in the city. It comes against the backdrop of tighter government control on emissions and increased demand for quality products with hazard-free labour norms from international business customers. ESTA Extraction India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the German company ESTA Apparatebau GmbH & Co.KG, is ISO and ATEX-certified to supply dust and fume extractors, industrial vacuum cleaning technology and central extraction systems, including those for carcinogenic and explosive materials, to Indian industry. “This [venture] is a marriage of the technical promise of Germany with the manufacturing skills and cost effectiveness of India,” T.R. Gopalan, Regional Director, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, said at a presentation of ESTA’s pollution control equipment. “Integrated dust extraction systems is a major area that will attract attention in the years to come from the point of view of environment, employee safety, their health, quality of product and improve the longevity of their machines. These systems are already applied in developed economies and regulations will soon have to be implemented in India in most of the organisations engaged in production activity,” he said. “We in India need to implement environmental standards, not just for the love of it but because it makes good business sense,” said Sarat Chandran, Director of the Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce. An audit of money lost owing to dust and moisture undertaken by a leading tyre manufacturer revealed a loss of Rs.5 crore a year, he illustrated. “Cost is a big factor, but for big companies it pays for itself. And after all, the loss of a clean environment is not just a business loss, but a loss for the community too,” he told The Hindu. “This is a good story of how a German medium enterprise and an Indian entrepreneur met, trusted each other and went ahead,” said German Consul General Roland Herrmann. He stressed that environmental concerns, which rank high on the German agenda, are not only a matter of necessity but also long-term business thinking. ESTA’s extensive product range of sophisticated, mobile, static and central extraction cleaners remove particles and impurities such as dust, metal and carcogens but do not purify gases in the air. ESTA enters a market that is poised to touch Rs 9.6 billion ($240 million) by 2009-2010, according to estimates made by market research analyst group Frost and Sullivan.
