SHOW OF STRENGTH: A march taken out by activists of the CPI to mark the end of its Ernakulam district convention in the city on Thursday. KOCHI: The Communist Party of India (CPI) took out an impressive rally in the city on Thursday afternoon as part of the conclusion of its four-day district convention. Thousands of activists of the party and its feeder organisations from across the district took part in the rally that set off from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and ended at Marine Drive, where a large public meeting was held. Vehicles carrying party workers started arriving in the city from morning and the city was decked with red party flags and festoons. The rally caused traffic congestion in many parts of the city and the police had made arrangements for diversion of traffic. The two-day delegates session held as part of the convention witnessed heated discussions on the present political situation, the role of the CPI in the Achuthanandan government and sharp criticism of the functioning of some Ministers. The convention also re-elected Mundakkayam Sadasivan as the district secretary and formed a new district committee.
