VICTERS is an educational channel for students Operators agree to air channel after school hours THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local-cable TV operators have agreed to beam VICTERS, the educational channel for students, through their networks across the State. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Additional District Magistrate Shivarajan Nair with the cable TV operators. “As per the discussion, nearly 70 per cent of the cable operators will air the channel after school hours,” he said. In fact, the live-telecast of Schools youth festival held in Kollam through VICTERS, in association with the local cable TV network, was a novel experience for the operators and viewers alike. “The response we received following the telecast of the youth festival was quite encouraging,” said IT@School Executive Director K. Anwar Sadath. “This is going to be a continuous process,” he said. The tie up of EDUSAT with local cable TV networks will enable repeat transmission of educational material direct to homes. So, a child from the comfort of his home can revise a lesson or watch an experiment being performed if he has not fully understood it during the initial broadcast during school hours. Even a child who is not able to attend school for some reason would be able to keep a tab on his lessons from home. Using the cable TV networks will also enable the department to organise live phone-in programmes for students; programmes wherein students can get in touch with a subject expert, real time, to clarify doubts or to participate in lesson-discussions.
