KOZHIKODE: Of late, the discipline of history is facing two major challenges, K.N. Panikkar, historian and Vice-Chairman of the Higher Education Council, has said. Prof. Panikkar was delivering the keynote address at a seminar organised by the Post-graduate Department of History, CKGM Government College, Perambra, on ‘recent trends in historiography and social theory’ on January 16 and 17. Prof. Panikkar said one of the challenges was the development of communal historiography and the other the tendency to question the relevance of history itself. “To resist these challenges, we have to evolve an alternative modernity giving emphasis to intellectual movement,” he added. As many as 100 delegates from all over the State including teachers, research scholars and post-graduate students attended the deliberations.
