Zilla panchayat president draws criticism

Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR: The functioning of the Chikmagalur Zilla Panchayat came in for sharp criticism at its general meeting held here on Thursday.

Cutting across party lines, members complained that the administration had “collapsed”.

Allegation

Radha Sundaresh said that officials, including gram panchayat secretaries, were not attending to office work on the pretext that they had to attend other meetings or they were deputed for training or election work.

The former zilla panchayat president H.M. Satish said panchayat president Chandramma Manjunath had lost control over the officials.

Decision

Members agreed to a decision taken by K. Sundar Naik, chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat, that district-level officials had been directed not to attend meetings and stay in headquarters from the 11th to 25th of every month.
