Two arrested for selling illicit liquor

Salem: Two persons were arrested on charges of selling illicit liquor at Annathanpatti here on Thursday.

Acting on a tip off, police personnel raided various parts in Annathanapatti and found Palaniappan and Raja selling illicit liquor.

Cases registered

The two were arrested and cases were registered against them in this connection.

Road blockade

More than 100 women blocked the traffic on Omalur- Theevattipatti Road near here on Friday protesting against the alleged irregularities in the distribution of rice under the Public Distribution System. Police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.

Traffic on the road was affected for more than 15 minutes.
