Insurance: drive to enrol farmers

Thiruvananthapuram: The State government will launch a fortnight-long drive to enrol 5 lakh farmers in its Kisansree insurance scheme from February 1.The scheme would be formally launched after the enrolment campaign is over, Agriculture Minister Mullakara Ratnakaran said. Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and scientist M S Swaminathan will attend the function. All those who subscribe to the insurance scheme by March 1, 2008, will be covered till March 1, 2009, he said. —Special Correspondent
