HYDERABAD: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) might have relaxed the qualification for appointment of teachers in Colleges of Education but the universities are in no mood to implement the relaxations citing dilution of standards. The qualification for a lecturer in a B.Ed. college has been relaxed from a Post Graduation with M.Ed. to a Post Graduation with B.Ed by the NCTE recently citing lack of qualified teachers to meet the numbers in the ever-growing B.Ed colleges. “The NCTE might have relaxed the rules but as an affiliating body University will continue to stress on the old norms of M.Ed along with a post-graduation in the concerned subject,” said an official. In fact, the guidelines prepared by the university for the benefit of recruitments in private colleges clearly indicate their stand. As per the guidelines, appointments should ensure availability of expertise for both teaching of foundations and methodology course.
