dated January 19, 1958: Kashmir’s future

The Kashmir Premier, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed, addressing National Conference workers in Srinagar on January 18 said that the people of India “would not allow any amputation of their country, be it in Kashmir or anywhere else.” He said that Sheikh Abdullah was talking in terms of independent Kashmir without caring to know the urges and aspirations of the people of Kashmir. An independent Kashmir “will be a cockpit of international intrigues and a war base. No one in India would allow that to happen.”
