Karnataka, with 17 points, emerges champion

Bangalore: Karnataka emerged champion in the KSCA South Zone under-13 tournament that concluded here recently. The host topped the league with 17 points from five matches and was locked in a draw in its last league match against Goa.

Andhra and Goa, with 16 points apiece, was tied at the second spot.

Special awards: Best bowler: M. Saleem Baig (Andhra).

Best batsman: Sanju Samson (Kerala).

Promising cricketer: D. Nischal (Karnataka).

The scores:

Karnataka 174 in 48.3 overs and 262 for three in 73.1 overs (D. Nischal 87, K.N. Bharath 100 n.o.) drew with Goa 218 in 163.1 overs.

Kerala 221 in 61.2 overs and 229 in 71.3 overs (Saleem Baig four for 56, Siddharda Reddy four for 59) lost to Andhra 585 for four decl. in 87.2 overs.

Tamil Nadu 90 in 35.5 overs and 198 in 72 overs (Shahrukh Khan 45) lost to Hyderabad 241 in 82.4 overs and 50 for three in 14.4 overs.

SJIHS triumphs

St. Joseph’s Indian High School (SJIHS) defeated SSM School by an innings and 279 runs in a B.T. Ramaiah Shield under-15 tournament quarterfinal that concluded here on Friday.

The scores (quarterfinals):

SJIHS 500 for three in 55 overs bt SSM School 125 in 47 overs (M. Roshan five for 54) and 96 for nine in 30 overs (Siddarth Urala five for two).

Presidency School, RT Nagar 161 in 39.5 overs and 236 for four in 30 overs (Anand 64, V. Abhishek 50, V. Kaushik 46) bt JIRS 94 in 36.4 overs and 152 for four in 30 overs (Prathveer Rai 86).

Presidency School, Nandini Layout 169 in 49.3 overs and 167 for six in 30 overs (S.S. Darshan 57, Abhishek four for 68) lost to SJBHS 195 in 50.5 overs (S.S. Darshan five for 48) and 142 for five in 28 overs (R. Prabhakar 54 n.o., Nithish Deshmukh four for 48).

FAPS 139 in 51 overs and 102 in 28.2 overs lost to Bishop Cotton Boy’s School 267 for eight in 55 overs.

Rafiq shines

Rafiq bagged seven wickets (seven for 29) to set up Friends CC’s five-wicket victory over Young Challenging Cricketers in a KSCA Metro Shield super-league match here recently.

Young Challenging Cricketers 80 in 23.1 overs (Rafiq seven for 29) lost to Friends CC 82 for five in 17.3 overs.

Palar SC 136 in 43.3 overs lost to Kengeri CC 139 for six in 27.3 overs (Shiva 50 n.o.).

YMCA CC (3) 158 in 40.3 overs lost to Bowlers CC 159 for three in 37.4 overs (Avinash 66, Srivatsa 52).

Bangalore Sports CC 234 in 44.2 overs (Dennis 50) bt Anglo Youth CC 185 in 39 overs (Harish Kumar four for 44).

Young Challenger SC 76 in 21.5 overs lost to Eminent Cricketers 78 for four in 14.1 overs.

MP’s request

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Member of Parliament, representing Bangalore in the Rajya Sabha, has written to the State Governor Rameshwar Thakur, requesting that Anil Kumble should be suitably recognised for bagging 600 Test wickets.
