Belgaum: As many as 33 shops were destroyed in a fire that broke out near the municipal shopping complex in the Old Market area in Gokak town in the early hours of Friday. According to Gokak police, initial reports suggested that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in one of the shops at about 1 a.m. It took nearly four hours for fire tenders from nearby Gokak Falls and Bailhongal and Sankeshwar towns to put out the fire. Gokak Tahsildar M.B. Chauhan conducted panchanama. The Gokak Town police have registered a case. Investigation is on. — Staff Correspondent
