‘Remove Minister’

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Congress has demanded removal of Rajasthan Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Madan Dilwar for his “derogatory remarks about Mother Teresa and the inflammatory comments he made on the functioning of madrasas in the border areas of the State”.

The Minister’s remarks amounted to hurting the sentiments of Muslims and Christians, the party alleged. Rajasthan Muslim Forum, an apex organisation of Muslim bodies in the State, has demanded an apology from the Minister.

“Mr. Dilwar is a disgrace to the post he is holding and should be dismissed,” said PCC vice-president Raghu Sharma in a statement here.

“Mother Teresa was conferred the country’s highest honour, Bharat Ratna, for her selfless service to the poor. It is unbecoming for a person holding a constitutional post to talk in a derisive manner about a recipient of Bharat Ratna, an honour BJP too wants for its leader A. B. Vajpayee,” Mr. Sharma said. “Mr. Dilwar’s statement is communal and inflammatory. His observations only show his ill will towards Muslims and Christians,” said several Muslim leaders in a statement.
