‘YSR government responsible for damage to Telangana’

Staff Reporter

CPI(M) leader charges State with neglecting region’s irrigation needs

Nomula Narasimhaiah

Sangareddy: Floor leader of the CPI(M) in the Assembly, Nomula Narsimhaiah, said that his party would hold Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy responsible for the damage done to Telangana region, particularly in the field of irrigation. He was addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the tenth Medak district party meet here on Friday.

Mr. Narsimaiah pointed out that the Congress government had done nothing to alleviate the irrigation problem in Telangana and hence the CPI(M) had every right to oppose Polavaram.

“On the other hand, the CPI(M) never opposed Inchampalli or Devadula as they are meant to lift water to the parched Telangana lands and not for stabilisation of existing ayacut,” Mr Narsimhaiah observed. He further said that the Chief Minister, who is apparently against bifurcation of the State, should have done something extra for the backward region to pacify the people of the region. The Telangana region, which has over 40 per cent of pumpsets in the State, had not even been granted two extra hours of power to save the crops.

2nd SRC

On the Second States Reorganisation Commission, Mr Narsimhaiah said there was no change in the party’s stand against small States and asked the Congress to introduce the separate Telangana bill in Parliament instead of blaming the CPI(M) for the delay.

He criticised the TRS for enjoying power in the State and Centre for long and now enacting a ‘drama of sacrifice’ by offering to resign their seats.

Bhoo Poratam

Later, CPI (M) Medak committee secretary Chukka Ramulu, addressing a public meeting near the new bus stand, announced that the party was gearing up for another round of Bhoo Poratam from February.

He asked the small and marginal farmers, farm labourers and the landless to get ready for another Rytanga Poratam akin to the Telangana armed struggle to achieve their rights.
