BANGALORE: Attempts by the BWSSB to reuse waste water for potable purposes have got a fillip with the Centre agreeing to fund the project, estimated to cost Rs. 472 crore, under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) . A release from BWSSB said the proposal was sanctioned by the Central Screening Committee, which met in New Delhi under the chairmanship of M. Ramachandran, Secretary (Urban Development), on Friday. While the Centre provides 35 per cent of the project cost, the rest will have come from the State Government, assisted by loan from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation. The board said it would take this project as an initiative to treat the waste water for re-use for potable purposes to meet the drinking water requirement of Bangalore.
