Prachanda fears assassinations

Ameet Dhakal

KATHMANDU: The chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Prachanda, on Friday expressed fears that there was a possibility of high-profile political assassinations in the country.

“A series of murders and counter-murders could take place in a run-up to the Constituent Assembly polls,” said Prachanda, talking to journalists in the capital.

“In the coming days, there could be assassination of important political figures in Nepal, something like the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto.” He claimed that he had received credible information in this regard. “Several groups have entered the capital for the purpose.”
