A treat for dog lovers

Bangalore to host All-India Championship Dog Shows tomorrow


BANGALORE: As many as 450 canines of 52 breeds will be vying for honours at the 86th and 87th All-India Championship Dog Shows to be organised by the Mysore Kennel Club at the Football Ground behind the Dairy Science College, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Hebbal Campus, here on Sunday at 9 a.m.

The third national show of Great Dane Club of India will also be held in which 80 Great Danes are likely to participate.

The dogs will be competing for the Best of Breed, Best in Group and the Best in Show honours. Fourteen rare breeds, including Miniature Schnauzer, Neapolitan Mastiff, St. Bernard, Wirehaired Dachshund, Weimaraner,

Fox Terrier, Fox Hound, German Wirehaired Pointer, Silky Terrier, Collie, Pekingese, Saluki and Shih Tzus, are among the participating dogs.

Besides, popular breeds such as German Shepherd, Doberman, Setter, Spaniel, Dalmatian, Golden Retriever, Great Dane and Pomeranian will be on display. Club president B.C. Ramakrishna told presspersons on Wednesday that this championship shows were being organised to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the club and the golden jubilee of the Veterinary College, Bangalore.

“There will be a record number of 130 exhibits from outstation this year,” he said.

Internationally acclaimed canine judges C.V. Sudarshan and Maria Rocio A De Vega and Simon Lu Sim from the Philippines will adjudicate.

S.T. Ramesh, Additional Director-General of Police and Inspector General of Prisons, will inaugurate the show. R.N. Sreenivas Gowda, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, will participate. A souvenir will be released to mark the occasion.
