ATTUR: As many as 54 persons were injured in the jallikattu conducted as a part of the Pongal celebrations in Koolamedu near here on Friday. Sources said that of them, four persons, who sustained serious injuries, were admitted to Attur Government hospital. The rest were given first aid on the spot. Police personnel made heavy security arrangements. Revenue officials were present. Residents block trafficResidents of Dasasamudram village in Omalur blocked the traffic on Bangalore National Highways on Friday protesting against the alleged irregularities in the distribution of rice under the Public Distribution System. They claimed that officials at the fair price shop in the village supplied only 15 kg of rice per family card instead of normal monthly quota of 20 kg. Theevattipatti police personnel pacified the agitators. The traffic on the road was affected for short period. Labourer killedA labourer was killed on the spot in a road accident near Paramathi Velur on Friday. Police said Indirani (40) of Podhanur was travelling on a tractor, when she accidentally fell on the road and caught under the rear wheel of the tractor. She died on the spot. A case was registered.
