Krishnagiri: The district administration has banned the entry of vehicles carrying poultry and poultry feed from West Bengal following the bird flu outbreak at Birbhum and South Dinajpur districts. Such vehicles will be denied entry at Zuzuvadi, Andivadi, Kakkanur, Kumlapuram and Kuruvinayanapalli check-posts. As many as 12 highly trained teams from the Department of Animal Husbandry have been deployed at inter-state border check-posts to check vehicles carrying poultry, Collector Santhosh Babu told The Hindu. Each team has a surgeon, livestock inspector and veterinary assistant. They sprayed vehicles with disinfectants. The Department of Animal Husbandry had formed a mobile squad to create awareness among the public. It would visit villages and explain how to feed the birds. Mr. Babu said that no case of poultry affected by bird flu had been reported in Krishnagiri district so far. Livestock inspectors and veterinarians were maintaining a tight surveillance on about 334 poultry farms and seven hatcheries in the district. A core committee comprising officials of the Health and Animal Husbandry departments had been formed to monitor the situation on a daily basis, the Collector added.
