JAIPUR: As many as 2,254 students belonging to minority communities in Rajasthan will get scholarships instituted by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs this year to encourage youngsters coming from poor families to go for higher education and equip them to avail of employment opportunities. State Minorities’ Commission Chairperson Jasbir Singh said here on Saturday that the scholarships would be given to the post-matriculate, graduate and post-graduate students and Ph.D. scholars. The financial incentive will be available to those studying in government and private schools and colleges as well as Industrial Training Institutes. Of the recipients, 1,894 are Muslims, 326 Sikhs, 30 Christians and four Buddhists. While the students belonging to below poverty line (BPL) families will be given priority in the award of scholarships, 30 per cent of the scholarships will be reserved for girls. EligibilityStudents getting at least 50 per cent marks and their household income not exceeding Rs.2 lakh a year are eligible for the scholarships. Mr. Singh said the State Commission is in touch with the National Minorities’ Commission, Maulana Azad Educational Foundation and senior officers of the Minority Affairs Ministry for timely release of scholarships.
