All about housing: Chief Secretary L.K. Tripathy at one of the stalls at ‘FAIRPRO 2008,’ in Chennai on Friday. CHENNAI: Chief Secretary L.K. Tripathy on Friday urged the real estate developers to step into the shoes of the prospective buyers to realise their dream homes. Inaugurating ‘FAIRPRO 2008,’ Chennai’s biggest property fair, he said, “The real estate developers have the additional responsibility of creating a beautiful neighbourhood along with beautiful houses for all sections.” They should commit themselves to creating beautiful cities. According to him, the State has a bigger vision of making Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore beautiful cities. He asked the developers to use the services of architects and allot space for every utility in the right proposition. Change in concept“We have been seeing the changing landscape of Chennai over the years. From a single house, the concept has changed to 100-500 units in a single place. While it is a lifetime dream for middleclass people to own a home, those working in IT firms plan such dwelling in the first year of their employment itself. Streamline your projects in such a way as to avoid delays. Identify the weak spots and inform us and we will try to take remedial action,” he said. Prakash Challa, president, Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI), Tamil Nadu, said they were ready to work with the State government under the public-private partnership mode to make housing affordable to all. He also said they had a grievance redressal mechanism in place to solve the buyers’ problem, if the CREDAI member deviated from the committed objective. The three-day event is being held at the Chennai Trade Centre at Nandambakkam. About 40 builders and three housing finance institutions are taking part.
