Expedite rubber park works: AIADMK

Staff Reporter

Nagercoil: The AIADMK here has urged the Government to set up a rubber park in the district in order to provide employment to the un-employed youths, said K.P. Rajendra Prasad, former Fisheries Minister.

The former Minister said that the Government should come forward to ensure the welfare of the planters in different parts of the district by setting up of a rubber factory or park repeatedly promised by successive Governments for years. Rubber technology courses for the benefit of younger generation, setting up of rubber consultancy unit for guiding industries, introduction of new products through Research and Development with an intention to explore the ways and means to utilise the world-class rubber produced in the district are some of the demands put forth to the Government by the planters.

When this was brought to the notice of the Minister for Tourism, N. Suresh Rajan, he said that the Government had allotted a sum of Rs.15 crore for the setting up of rubber industrial park at Chenbagaramanputhur in the district.

The preliminary work for the establishment of park would be started at the earliest.

The acquisition of land would be completed within a month, as the Government had already acquired 140 acres, he added.
