Vinoth, Rahim star for St. Peter’s

Karaikudi: An unfinished third-wicket partnership of 108 between K. Vinoth (59 not out) and Abdur Rahim (52 not out) helped St. Peter’s Cricket Club, Kodaikanal, defeat Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Tiruchi, by eight wickets and enter the semifinals of the 25th annual CECRI Twenty20 cricket tournament at Karaikudi on Saturday.

The scores (quarterfinals): Urumu Dhanalakshmi College 148 for nine in 20 overs (B. Vajravel 45) lost to St. Peter’s CC 151 for two in 18.5 overs (Vinoth 59 not out, Abdur Rahim 52 not out); Syed Ammal Engg. College, Ramanathapuram, 156 for nine in 20 overs bt Majestic CC, Madurai, 132 in 19.5 overs (Jai Sankar 42, Abbasali four for 22); Aruna Sports CC 177 for seven in 20 overs (B. Ashok Kumar 36) bt Knights CC 138 in 17.2 overs (Arulanandam 39); Devakottai CC 183 for five in 20 overs (Selvaganapathy 56 not out) bt Tamilan CC 110 in 15.4 overs.

Sukumar scalps five

K. Sukumar’s five-wicket haul helped Prahlad CC defeat Urumu Dhanalakshmi College by 143 runs and win the RKV Cup at the State-level invitation cricket tournament here on Saturday.

Akshya P. Rai’s 56 helped Thiruvallur defeat Theni by four wickets and enter the final of the ICL Mahaveer Chand memorial Trophy inter-district under-13 cricket tournament at Sankarnagar on Saturday.

The scores (semifinals): Theni 105 in 24 overs (Nineeth Kumar 30, L. Varun three for 24) lost to Thiruvallur 106 for six in 22.1 overs (Akshay P. Rai 56 not out).

Kanchipuram 81 in 29 overs (Aditya three for 16) lost to Coimbatore 82 for four in 25.5 overs (Hari Nishanth 29).

Retains title

Calicut University retained the title defeating Punjabi University 9-8 in the final of the all-India inter-university women’s kho-kho tournament organised by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University at Tirunelveli on Friday.

Punjabi collected only three points, whereas Calicut had nine in the first innings to lead 9-3. In the second Punjabi could collect only 5 points and Calicut won by an odd point and an innings.

In the third place match, Mumbai beat Pune 12-8, after leading 6-4 at half time.

Brace by Dilip

A double strike by Dilip enabled PSG Tech ‘A’ score a 2-0 win over Coimbatore Institute of Technology in the inaugural match of the second Tech hockey league for the Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Trophy at the PSG Tech grounds in Coimbatore on Saturday.

Easy win for Indian Bank

Indian Bank, Chennai, registered an easy 60-24 win over Loyola College, Chennai, while Southern Railway, Chennai, had to undergo many anxious moments before registering a 59-58 win over Armed Police, Chennai, in the semifinal round robin league of the Ayira Vaisya Basketball Club Trophy State-level basketball tournament at Paramakudi on Saturday.

The results (League): Indian Bank 60 (Amarnath Gopi 16, Lokesh Yadav 13) bt Loyola College 24 (Nibin 12); Southern Railway 59 (Saravanarajan 23, Venkatesh 13) bt Armed Police 58 (Rajendran 23, Ganesh 4).

Quarterfinals: Indian Bank 74 (Javeed Khan 15) bt Young Stars BC, Batlagundu 25; Armed Police 72 (Chandra Mohan 17, Ganesh 23) bt Sethu Engineering, Madurai 61 (Mathan 24, Palanivelrajan 18).

Fine bowling by Bala

A fine spell by medium pacer Bala (six for 20) helped Supersonic Cricket Club defeat Oliva Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-MDCA first division ‘B’ league at Madurai recently.

The scores:

First division: ‘B’ zone: Spark Colts CC 121 for nine in 33 overs (Kumar four for 16) lost to Eleven Bullets CC 122 for eight in 36.1 overs; Oliva CC 103 in 22.5 overs (Bala six for 20) lost to Supersonic CC 104 for eight in 25.5 overs (Rajiah four for 24).

Second division: Mercury CC 130 for nine in 30 overs tied with Majestic Kits CC 130 in 20 overs (Dharma five for 15).
