Nitin Gupta excels

BANGALORE: Young Indian rider Nitin Gupta excelled in both his rounds in the Championship Show Jumping Internationale individual event here on Saturday. Nitin rode Taqdeer and cleared the obstacles without dropping a single barrier in both the rounds.

The competition was intense as the fight for the second, third, fourth and fifth places had to be decided on the timings each of the riders clocked as they all finished with four penalties for the two round competition.

Arun Maribashetti who rode Goldfinger made it a 1-2 for India as he had the best timing amongst the four riders with identical points.

Australia’s Merrick Ubank who rode Andy Flower finished third and Major Rohit Dagar astride Arjuna finished fourth with slightly slower timings than Arun and Merrick.

Rebecca Crack made the competition an edge of the seat affair as she too had only four jumping faults after the two rounds. Rebecca rode Nishan beautifully but finished fifth.

The results: Individual event: 1. Nitin Gupta/ Taqdeer (0 penalties) 81.25 seconds; 2. Arun Maribashetti/ Goldfinger (4pts) 67.43; 3. Merrick Ubank/ Andy Flower (4pts) 70.02; 4. Major Rohit Dagar/ Arjuna (4 pts) 73.27.
