Veerappa Moily criticised for “opening a Pandora’s box” A dozen States were created without an SRC, says BJP State president
HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to table a bill for creation of Telangana state in fulfilment of the Congress’ party’s election promise and in tune with the Common Minimum Programme of the United Progressive Alliance. In a letter to the Prime Minister on Saturday, BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya said the second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) would serve no purpose since the recommendation of the first Commission for separate Telangana were consigned to the dustbin. Moreover, a dozen States were created without an SRC, he said. Strongly criticising AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily for “opening a Pandora’s box” by linking Telangana to SRC, he said the proposal had been strongly opposed by Congress leaders themselves. He said it was high time that the Centre chose between the future of the people of Telangana and that of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who had been described by his own partymen as the only obstacle for the formation of Telangana. Mr. Dattatreya was also critical of the Congress for not conveying its opinion on Telangana to the UPA sub-committee headed by Pranab Mukherjee in spite of Ms. Sonia Gandhi stating at a public meeting in Karimnagar that she would fulfil the aspirations of the people of Telangana. He said the BJP would introduce a private bill in Parliament on Telangana.
