Evergreen star: Actor Dev Anand being felicitated by the former Chief Justice of the Karnataka and Kerala High Courts V.S. Malimath; Secretary, Tourism, I.M. Vittalamurthy; and the former High Court judge A.J. Sadashiva in Bangalore on Saturday. BANGALORE: Dev Anand, the octogenarian actor-auteur, whose films and their unforgettable melodies have captured the imagination of at least two generations, listened to the cover versions of the songs by local singers when he was felicitated by the Vinmusiclub on Saturday. In his reply, Mr. Dev Anand in turn sang the praises of Bangalore as the knowledge capital saying he was honoured to be here. The still dapper and youthful veteran said he was tempted to make a film here using Kannada actors. Ever the showman, he reeled off dialogues from his most famous film, “Guide,” to delighted whoops from the crowds. Autograph hunters swarmed the stage wanting him to sign copies of his autobiography. The songs that followed comprised mostly the famous peppy numbers, but their rendering did not do full justice to the originals. V.S. Malimath, former Chief Justice of the Karnataka and Kerala High Courts, proposed the vote of thanks.
