‘Judges trying hard to reduce pending cases’
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: Union Minister for Law and Justice H.R. Bharadwaj on Saturday felt that the Chief Justice of a court should have a minimum tenure of five years, so that he could contribute effectively in the dispensation of justice.
He was delivering the keynote address at the South India Regional Conference on Mediation, organised by the Bangalore Mediation Centre of the Karnataka High Court, as part of its first anniversary celebrations, here.
Mr. Bharadwaj said that judges all over the country were trying their best to reduce the pending cases in courts.
Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan said: “the availability of organised and well regulated mediation empowers lawyers to provide better service to litigants. It reduces costs, time and stress as compared to court-based litigation. In this manner, lawyers can greatly improve their practice and efficiency”. Mediation, he said, thus made a good professional sense.
