Irulas seek community certificates
Special Correspondent
VILLUPURAM: The Pazhangudi Irular Padhukappu Sangam has appealed to the authorities in Villupuram and Cuddalore districts to issue community certificates to the Irula students without any delay.
The general body of the Sangam that met at Ananthapuram in Ginjee block near here recently under the chairmanship of P.Ilangovan had passed a resolution in this regard.
It noted that two months ago the Sangam had submitted a list of 1,091 Irula students in Villupuram district and 28 students in Cuddalore districts to Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudy and the respective district administrations seeking communication certificates but till now there was no response.
The delay in issuing the community certificates had affected the education and job prospects of those candidates.
The Sangam further noted that to improve the literacy rate among the Irulas, which now stood at 12.3 per cent against the State average of 73.4 per cent, the Pazhangudi Irulas Education Trust had been formed.
Recently, the Trust had bought 28 cents of land at Ananthapuram, it noted.
The Sangam also resolved to revive the monthly Irulas’ newsletter.
