KHAMMM: Minister for Health and Family Welfare Sambhani Chandrasekhar said that the assigned land still in the illegal occupation would be taken over by the government for distribution to the landless poor. Addressing a meeting organised at Tirumalayapalem village on Sunday, he said that the development of the assigned land allotted to the landless would be given top priority. The land would be developed with the support of the government and made arable, thus enabling the beneficiaries to start agriculture. The Minister said that the land distribution programme in the current phase would benefit some 3,484 beneficiaries in the district. The administration had earmarked 7,103 acres of land for distribution to the landless in Khammam district alone. He handed over the pattas to 49 beneficiaries in the village. The Minister said that the rural employment guarantee scheme was giving desired result in Khammam district. Educating farmersThe administration had taken up a programme for educating the farmers and updating their knowledge on farming technique from time to time. The farmers would also be given loan assistance at an interest rate of 25 paise. Sagar projectHe said the Sriramsagar project second stage benefiting some mandals in his Palair Assembly constituency would be completed by 2009. The tail-end land of the SRSP canal system would be given waters from Rajiv Sagar lift scheme, the Minister added.
