Banks asked to extend loans to develop land: D. Srinivas

NIZAMABAD: Minister for Higher Education D. Srinivas, here on Sunday, distributed 307 acres of land to 278 landless families belonging to 25 villages in his Nizamabad Assembly constituency.

Ownership documents

He handed over the pattadar passbooks and land ownership documents to women members of the beneficiary families at a function conducted on the premises of the local Tahsildar office as part of the 4th round of land distribution programme of the State government.

On the occasion, he said the Congress government launched this ambitious programme in its efforts to provide land to every landless poor and thereby instil confidence in them.

In the four rounds of land distribution 730 acres were distributed to 629 families in the constituency, he said.

Mr. Srinivas said banks were asked to extend loans to develop these lands.

Besides, the government was providing assistance for land reclamation under the Indira Prabha and National Rural Employment Guaranty Scheme. Agricultural implements and inputs were also being supplied on the subsidy basis to enable the poor to get benefit through the cultivation, he said.

All ownership rights were being given to the beneficiaries so that no hindrance would come in their way of cultivating the land, he said and disclosed that water would be released for the second crop through Ali Sagar lift irrigation scheme. The Argul Rajaram Gupta lift scheme would be dedicated to the farmers in next 15 days, he said. Remaining poor landless families would be handed over the assigned and land under encroachment in the next round of distribution. If beneficiaries were subjected to harassment must be brought to the Government notice, he said.

Mandal Praja Parishad president Sucharita, District Congress Committee president G. Gangadhar, Joint Collector G. Ramnarayana Reddy and others attended.
