Rs. 4.9 crore has been released for the scheme BIDAR: P.P. Prabhu, adviser to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, has said that 49 villages have been selected in the district under Suvarna Gramodaya and a grant of Rs. 4.9 crore has been released for work under the scheme. MeetingMr. Prabhu held a meeting with district-level officials at the zilla panchayat auditorium here on Saturday. He said that 32 works would be taken up by the Land Army and 15 by the engineering wing of the zilla panchayat. He asked the officials to complete all the works within March. Zilla panchayat Deputy Secretary J.C. Prakash told the meeting that under the National Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) about 1.26 lakh persons had been issued cards for employment and Rs. 20 crore had been spent for the purpose. Mr. Prabhu directed the gram panchayats concerned to expedite the process of selecting beneficiaries for Ashraya houses for the year 2006-07. Water scarcityHe said that drinking water scarcity would not be a problem in the district. FundsThe State Government would provide funds for drinking water, he said and asked the officials to take suitable steps to overcome water scarcity. Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta, zilla panchayat president Jayasheela Reddy and district officials were present.
