Yoga sessions to be held in mornings and evenings Physically challenged can also make use of the facilities Chitradurga: “The use of stadiums in the district should not be limited to sports and athletic activities, but should be developed as centres for promoting health,” Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas has said. Mr. Biswas has decided to restructure the functioning of stadiums here by introducing various wellness programmes at the Vonake Vobbavva stadium in the city. He has proposed to convert the stadium into a full-fledged fitness centre. Speaking to The Hindu he said that as part of the project, a yoga club would be introduced. An instructor would be appointed to take care of the centre. Classes would be held twice a day. While the morning session would be exclusively meant for women, the evening session would be for men. Keeping in mind the importance of good health for women, a physician would be appointed to guide them on various exercises conducive for overall well-being. “We also want to introduce aerobics, but since qualified instructors are not available, we are not in a position to introduce it,” he said. The city has three laughter clubs, which would be asked to conduct sessions on laughter therapy inside the stadiums. Mr. Biswas said to implement the project, elected representatives had been asked to allocate some funds, while private agencies had been requested to donate equipment. “They have given their consent to the project. A private company has agreed to donate wheelchairs for the physically challenged, who can also make use of the centre. Lighting arrangements will also be made around the stadiums for those who come for their morning and evening walks. For the upkeep of the centre, fees collected from the members of the badminton club and gymnasium will be used.
